When I stumbled across these sweet yet ghoulish images of embroidered x-rays, I instantly wanted to find out more. They are the work of Philadelphian artist Matthew Cox, who actually stitches onto the x-rays to create these quirky and original pieces of art. By adding layers of flowers to the images, he subverts their original purpose, taking something clinical and turning it into something beautiful.
He says the x-rays symbolise the masculine world of medicine and technology and he was inspired to add the traditional craft of embroidery to fuse the masculine with the feminine. I'm completely fascinated by these eerie embroidered skeletons and can’t wait to see what Matthew will come up with next.

Inspired to create her abstract, yet stunning menagerie after her grandmother’s needlepoint of a wild boar hunt was thrown out after she passed away, each one is made up of expertly sourced vintage tapestries. I really adore how once wrapped around the artists fiberglass animal-shaped moulds, these old-fashioned textiles have a whole new lease of life.

Texture takes a starring role for autumn and the skirt has been remixed in a whole host of statement-making fabrics. From leather to latex, feathers to fur, these are clothes to excite the senses.
Referencing the likes of Bottega Veneta and Donna Karan for inspiration, don't be afraid to experiment. Throw out the old rule book and try new, eclectic mixes like this Giambattista Valli boucle skirt with neon flashes. Accent with a cropped sweater or a simple print shirt, supersized jewels and a colour-pop clutch for the sleekest silhouette.
With the nights drawing in as Autumn fast approaches, the best way to stay bright is with the one trend that refuses to go anywhere - candy-coloured hair! As seen on one of my favourite models (the one and only Charlotte Free), pink is my shade of choice. I don’t know about you but it’s making me weak-at-the-knees.
The key is to go for as sugary-a-shade as possible. Take tangerine, lavender and blush hues as your starting point and then create your very own candy coloured combination.
Borne up by a wave of inspiration after watching the 1940s hairstyle video, above, I landed with the thought of writing a blog post on ’40s hairstyles. So, I’ve straightened out some research and banged out a few ’40s-era hairdo definitions for ya!
Chignon — The hairdo seen in the video at top, the chignon is marked by a low bun and upswept sides, and can have many variations.
Omelet Fold — This ‘egg-ceptional’ hairdo features a slightly off-center part, rolled up or folded up sides, and, if desired, a decorative arrangement of curls on top.
Queue Curl — Sure to get one’s hair in line and lookin’ fine, this pretty style boasts rolled and folded up sides, a slicked down middle, and a slightly teased or curled back.
Victory Rolls — This successfully stylish ‘do and trademark of the pin-up and rockabilly aesthetics exhibits rolled up sides that sit high atop the crown toward the front of the head. The remaining hair can be pinned up or worn down. The name for this hairstyle comes from a maneuver executed by fighter jets.
